Arranged for a CD recording session of the Tokyo Clarinet Ensemble "The Brilliant Clarinet Ensemble IV" (ALM Records) in 1996. At that time, some of Bartok's (1881-1945) works became public domain, so I proposed arranging the "Romanian Folk Dances". The original was for solo piano, a memorable work I once enjoyed playing.
Bartok, a Hungarian composer (migrated to the United States in his later years) collected folk songs from Eastern Europe when he was young, and later disassembled and reconstructed their individuality to create a probably esoteric musical style. However, there was no complicated writing in this work, and it is popular amongst music lovers who enjoy folk songs and are not familiar with modern and contemporary music. It consists of six small songs, each with a distinctive rhythm, all played continuously "attacca".
