Commissioned by Trouvère Quartet, Octet for Saxophone was written for a joint concert with Aurelia Saxophone Quartet of the Netherlands. The composition was completed in October 2000 and premiered in December of the same year in Amsterdam. It was then performed in Tokyo and Hiroshima, Japan.
The work is written for 2 quartets (S.A.T.B.).
Imagine a scene like this:
In olden times, two groups of wandering musicians meet in a street setting. They decide to perform together. They play competitively, each showing their best, while respectfully listening to the others’ effort. There is an evident strong bond between them that words cannot explain.
It is my sincere desire that performers experience this joy of making ensemble music together.
