Commissioned by Brass Collection, an ensemble entirely from Toyama Prefecture. This suite consisting of four movements premiered in September 2015 in Toyama City and Uozu City at their regular annual concert “Brass Collection 9”.
It was rose season when I envisioned this piece. There were beautiful roses in the gardens of many homes. This scenery inspired me to write four movements about the four dominant rose colors and call it “Rose Garden”.
“White Rose” depicts purity through the transparent harmonic timbre unique to brass instruments. The second movement, “Pink Rose”, is a small waltz where a cute girl dances. “Yellow Rose” depicts jealousy with an intense atmosphere created by solo tuba. The fourth movement, “Red Rose”, shows passion with a lively and elegant style to round off the suite.
