Program Note

This work was premiered in July 2016, composed as a commissioning project for the joint concert "KAPPORE 2016" performed by the joint ensemble of Osaka's Castle Wind Ensemble and Osaka Korean Wind Orchestra.
From these two organizations, two thematic elements were requested: the theme of Osaka´ s "Tenjin-bayashi" and the Korean rhythmic style "Jangdan" (especially the triple meter style). Combining these themes was the main focus of the work. Tenjin-bayashi is often used in Osaka‚Äôs Tenjin Festival, and is the main musical accompaniment dominant in many traditional situations to honor the leading priest of a festival. Jangdan is representative of its roots, "Pungmul" wishing for a bountiful harvest.
Both themes resonate towards the heavens, God, and the universe. Both are a vibrant and explosive life force of this land. This liveliness inspired the title "The Lively Universe".
