This saxophone quartet "White & Black" was commissioned by Nobuya Sugawa and premiered at the 2009 "Simokura" Golden Week Dream Concert by Trouvère Quartet at Casals Hall, Nihon University.

The piece consists of two parts, and the first half begins with a phrase fluttering down, and each part has a melody transfer and interaction. Since the image is soft and delicate with the endless flow, the first half is "White". The second half, in contrast, is constructed with intense passages and stringent sounds. Combining the breathing of the four parts will create one huge energy. This movement is energetic, but also it has intellectual aspects, so the title is "Black".

The duration of the original song is 10 minutes. This revision is a condensed version for competition.
