This is a euphonium/tuba quartet version of the band arrangement commissioned by Tatsunokuchi Junior High School Band, Yoshitaka Kitaya, director, in 1998.
This version was commissioned by "Tubium" and premiered on April 17, 2007 at the Minato Mirai Recital Hall in Yokohama.
It is an excerpt of Lehar's blockbuster operetta. I feel that the four bass instruments are perfect for the harmonic image. It reveals the characteristics of the instruments.
I arranged it thinking that this instrumentation has a lot of lyrical musical potential. I feel that the euphonium/tuba is all about the richness of sound and harmony. Therefore, even in this score, it is important to make sure that every voice speaks clearly. If you only focus on the top melody and just balance the others, the ensemble will be ineffective.
There is one difference from the band arrangement. The "Vilia" has been changed to "Waltz" at [E]. If you play the previous two quarter notes without changing the tempo of the eighth note, the transition will be smooth. It's the same as when returning to "Vilia" at [H] . The overall tempo setting will vary greatly depending on how you play, so set the best pace for each.
There is a div. in the 1st Euphonium at m. 239. If possible, play the upper line, and if not, play the lower note. If you want to use multiple instruments for each part, of course, play with div. A bright performance and sound is most important.
